Chris Ruffe from the Scout Hut, at Scouts Corner gives us the lowdown on some local scout history, as we bid goodbye to the old scout hut. Pictured on the poster, Hereford Scouts, gas masks at the ready, with ARP controller Cecil Coney, right, and Deputy Commissioner Major Bailey during the last war. (Scout Stan Davis, who loaned the photo to Herefordshire Lore, middle row, end, left). The county scouts were active in both world wars under the direction of the chief constable, guarding bridges, telegraph lines, and carrying messages. |

Shame to see the scout hut go. My wife and I had our wedding reception there on April 3rd 1965.
