It took more than 200 cups of tea, 175 slices of cake and seven songs from the Hereford Fire Choir for Bartonsham’s local history group to achieve its jubilee ambition: to recreate a photograph taken 69 years earlier. On June 3 1953 ninety eight local residents gathered for a group photograph outside the parish Scout Hut when rain brought their street party to an end. This year on Friday June 3, just under 150 people turned up to recreate the picture. They included Judith Morgan from Whitecross and Jean Martin from Tupsley who had both featured on the original photo. “The whole episode became an historic event in itself,” declared Bill Laws, and £300 of donations were raised for the Government's Ukraine Appeal. Image thanks to Joe Nobile - Park Street resident and photographer, Joe stepped in at the 11th hour, when our original photographer called in sick. People who attended the event can request larger digital copies of the group photo, suitable for print.
