BHG Editorial Parish History Group

BHG is planning a parish history and will archive interviews and local photos.

The latest minutes of the group can be found here

Editorial Group Meet, Volly Sept 23
Naomi, Rosi, Linda, Ian, Pete, Christ, Bill

Parish History
Agreed to work on a parish history, largely confined to the parish boundaries. Ian advocates - and everyone agrees to - setting up a Wikipaedia page.

Subjects
To include:  origins; St Giles Chapel; the Barracks; General Hospital; Schools; lunatic asylum; mills; occupations (?); street names; almshouse; the river; Jakeman and Carver’s Mission Hall, Hampton Street; pubs and inns; horses; dairies.

Method
Individuals will compile material on a subject for group review at the next meeting:
Christine – river Wye walk; Naomi - Jane Hayes and the almshouses; Ian and Pete - parish origins up to 19th century; Linda - pubs and inns; Rosi and Tony - mills
Bill - First World War; David Clarke – John Venn (Bill to ask him).

Technology
Need to archive existing material (e.g. Linda and Christine’s interview (?); interview with Tony Charles; Mylis and Bill’s interview with Wing Commander Lamputt; photos; church history) and new material. Also need to interview local people including Doug Emery and his wife; Neville of 56 Green Street.
Christine  will buy a BHG hard drive, formatted for Mac and PC and set up a Dropbox account that we can upload material to and review; David West to be asked (Bill) – WHAT WAS I TO ASK HIM?

Also agreed to go ahead with Christine’s design for the pull up stand. Marsha to be asked (Bill? Or Linda?) to order.

Next meeting to review contributions: Oct 21, midday Volly. Bill to circulate this around the BHG group to get a few more contributors involved.
